Low-impact Living Initiative are offering the following residential weekend course in the middle of April 2007 in Buckinghamshire at the
Redfield Community.
Introduction to Wind and Solar Electricity
This course offers a gentle introduction to the basics of
generating electricity with
PV solar panels and
wind turbines. The course is aimed at anyone who is interested and no previous electrical knowledge is required.
Course Outline
This introduction to wind and solar electricity will cover the following main points:
* The environmental benefits of
PV solar panels and
wind turbine generators.
* Practical information about the
amount of electricity you can realistically expect to generate and the costs involved.
* Obtaining
planning permission for your solar or wind installation.
* Health and safety.
* Sizing wind and solar electricity systems to meet your needs.
* Full
circuit design including
cable sizing, connections, fuses, and your
battery bank.
* Using
power inverters to convert DC battery electricity from the battery bank into a domestic 240VAC supply.
* System
maintenance.
There will also be
practical sessions during which a
wind turbine generator will be erected, and a photovoltaic solar panel will be fitted and connected into an operational RE electricity generating system.
Course Prices and Contact Details
Courses are great value priced from just £120 to £180 depending on your level of earnings and shared accommodation, meals, and bedding are all included. A non-refundable £25 deposit is require to hold your place, with the remainder to be paid at least two weeks before the start of the course.
