Chispito DIY Wind Turbine Plans
Make a simple, affordable DIY wind turbine generator
The Chispito Wind Turbine Generator is a 100 Watt machine available in kit form in the USA for an incredible $105 (£60) with free delivery! Unfortunately the kits are not available in the UK, but detailed plans are available free of charge online, and the parts required are very easy to source. This wind turbine puts out 14 volts in low (7-10mph winds) at under 300rpm.
The key parts of the wind turbine generator is a 260 VDC permanent magnet motor taken from a treadmill together with simple to make PVC wind turbine blades (1). Everything else is available in any home DIY superstore or high street hardware shop, or can be salvaged or recycled from waste materials. Similarly the tools required are few - a power drill, jigsaw, drill bits, wire strippers, a wrench, an adjustable spanner, a compass, a screwdriver, and a tape measure and protractor.
