Earthrace Biodiesel Powered Superboat

Find out more about Earthrace - a biodiesel fueled round the world powerboat

Earthrace biodiesel fuelled powerboat

Earthrace (pictured above) is a unique powerboat, made from environmentally friendly materials and fuelled with biodiesel (1). This futuristic trimaran has been designed to circumnavigate the globe in just 60 days - smashing the existing round-the-world record, and doing so with zero carbon footprint (2).

World Record Attempt - March 1st 2008

The rules are simple, circumnavigate the globe in as little time as possible passing through both the Suez Canal and the Panama Canal, and refuelling only at port (not out at sea). The current record was set in 1998 by UK boat Cable and Wireless Aventurer, and stands at just under 75 days.

Earthrace round the world world record attempt

The two 540 hp Cummings Mercruiser QSC-540 engines run on Earthrace will be fuelled with B100 biodiesel (100% biodiesel) from its 10,000 litre fuel tanks, and can power Earthrace through the waves at speeds of up to 40 knots. An average speed of 20-25 knots is required to break the existing record.
