Click here to print Printed at 03:51am 21st November 2009 Wind Turbine Trial for BlackpoolTwo 15kW wind turbines installed in Blackpool pilot projectToday (Tuesday 24th April 2007) Blackpool will erect two 15kW wind turbines on the historical promenade by the Sandcastle Water Park. The two 19.5 metre tall turbine generators are part of a pilot project which will assess wind speeds (1), wind turbine output, and therefore the number of turbines required in a proposed wider project. Julian Kearsley, a Blackpool council spokesman said of the pilot project, "Geographically, Blackpool is in a tremendous position to harness the power of the wind and turn it to our advantage., and that, "The pilot will also give local people a chance to comment on the designs and for us to consider the turbines as part of the new promenade we're creating.. Blackpool Wind Turbines![]() The two £147,000 wind turbines will help to power Blackpool's world famous Illuminations and Sandcastle Water Park. Fixed to 19.5 metre poles, the three-blade wind turbines have 9 metre diameter blades . ![]() A third smaller helical Quietrevolution QR5 (2) wind turbine (pictured above) will be added in early May as Blackpool councillors assess the best kind of wind turbine for their location. All three wind turbines are expected to pay for themselves within 15 years and are expected to remain in operation for 25 years.
