Change to a Green Supplier and
Best UK Green Power Company we introduced
Good Energy as being one of the best suppliers of
renewable electricity in the UK. In this article we will look in more detail at Good Energy and the services they provide.
Good Energy
Good Energy supplies 100% renewable electricity. For every unit of electricity they sell, they buy one unit of electricity generated using renewable sources -
solar,
wind, or
hydro. In doing so Good Energy are the
only UK electricity supplier providing 100% renewable power to its customers. This differs significantly from other suppliers and their '
green tariffs'. Good Energy supply electricity to both homes and businesses.
At the time of writing, approximately 92% of the electricity purchased is from
wind power, 7% from
micro-hydro power, and just 1% from
PV Solar Power.
Typically you can expect your
electricity bill to rise by around
£4 per month compared to the big utility companies, however you can expect to save approximately
two tonnes of
carbon dioxide emissions at the same time greatly reducing your
carbon footprint.

National Consumer Council Best Rated Green Electricity Supplier
The
National Consumer Council (NCC) found
Good Energy to be the
greenest electricity supplier since it sources
100% of its electricity from renewable sources. The
NCC report (PDF) stated that "For those consumers who want a green electricity supply, pure and simple, this is probably the closest they will get to it."
Supply Electricity to Good Energy
If you are considering installing a
grid-tied renewable energy system in your home or business, then
Good Energy have an excellent
Home Generation product which makes it easier for small scale renewable energy generators to get paid for the surplus electricity which they generate and
export.
The main advantage of the Good Energy
Home Generation scheme is that an
export meter is not required - as long as the installed capacity is
under 10kW and the amount exported to the grid is
less than 5MWh per year. Instead an accredited
total generation meter (pictured above) is required which records the total number of units of electricity generated.
Good Energy pay
4.5 pence for every kWh unit of electricity produced whether it is used onsite or exported to the grid. By taking regular meter readings of the total generation meter, credit for the units of electricity produced are added to the standard Good Energy electricity supply bill.
Even if you have an
off-grid renewable energy generation system of under 10kW installed capacity, you can still qualify for the
4.5p per unit payment despite the fact all generated electricity is used onsite. As long as you have an accredited
total generation meter, and make one meter reading per year, you will receive a payment minus an administration charge.
