This
LM338T voltage regulator chip (aka LM338) works in exactly the same way as the
LM317T voltage regulator, the only difference being it can deal with higher currents.
The
LM338T is rated at
5 Amps continuous current and short bursts (50 milliseconds) of up to 7 Amps. Used with a suitable heatsink the
LM338 will manage continuous currents of up to 8+ Amps.
The
LM338T is commonly used in
solar battery chargers and to provide a 5 Amp
fixed voltage power supply from a higher voltage
battery bank.
The output voltage is set using two resistors. If you require resistors please
contact us with details of your exact requirements and we will assist you.
Heatsink
Click here to purchase a
TO220 Bolt-On Heatsink suitable for use with the
LM338T. This will keep the temperature of the LM338T down when used to provide currents close to the rated value or when there is a large difference between the input voltage and the chosen output voltage.
